So, it’s a month to the day since I posted my most recent tirade against Facebook, but this time I’m writing to report that I finally kicked Mark Zuckerberg’s travesty to the curb. Granted, there wasn’t much left there to delete…
And that was the aspect that made it more difficult, actually.
I didn’t have much in my private profile besides my email address, and according to a report I ran using Reclaim Privacy’s Facebook checker tool, my information (or lack of it) was well protected with my configured settings. So why not just leave it as-is? With little to lose, Facebook could still have been an outpost where people could check in to find my email address and get in touch with me. I quit anyway, for the following reasons:
- I’m sick of Facebook’s degrading privacy protection.
- Whatever Facebook once was, it’s no longer a social gathering place for me, as it is a place of parallel play. Games, petitions, and interest groups that you never actually post on have eclipsed the real social connection that was once defined the site.
- I blog. I tweet. I’m not that hard to find, if people are actually so-inclined to connect with me.
I’ll be watching my inbox, and the comment queue. ^_^
