Goodbye Google Buzz

Another day, another social media tool I’m divesting myself from.  Why?  Well, on one hand, it has been as rife with privacy problems as Facebook.  In their rush to get the product out to market to as many people as possible, Google sacrificed the sort of quality control testing that comes with gradually released beta.  For that matter, they robbed themselves of the “buzz” that a by-invitation-only service generates.  It could have been so much better than it was upon full release, and it mostly is better at the present time.

My reason for dumping it today is that it doesn’t really add any value.  Like Google Wave before it, it isn’t giving me anything really significantly useful beyond the tools I’m already using (including Google’s own tools, like Google Docs).

Do bad services roll out in threes?
